Network Requirements

Overview

The below chart of IP addresses, ports, and protocols need to be permitted and available in order for Passages to function successfully. If you’re experiencing issues connecting to the Passages network, it’s likely that one or more of these items are being blocked. Your firewall, web gateway, HTTP/S proxy, SSL inspection tool, or client security software may need to be examined and exceptions put in place to permit Passages to connect to these required IPs, ports, and protocols.

Destination Address Destination Port/Protocol Action:
Permit/Deny
Rule:
Add/Remove/Modify
192.238.26.40 (Cloud Services) 80/HTTP/TCP Permit Add
192.238.26.40 (Cloud Services) 443/HTTPS/TCP Permit Add
192.238.26.41 (OpenVPN Server) 443/OpenVPN/TCP Permit Add
192.238.26.41 (OpenVPN Server) 1194/OpenVPN/UDP Permit Add

If you confirm that these ports, protocols, and IP addresses are permitted and available for Passages and you have a Windows computer, your next step is to examine Windows Firewall. You can do so in our article here.

If you have any issues or questions regarding your network requirements, please contact the Passages Support Team at support@getpassages.com.

Detailed Breakdown

Cloud Services:

Passages connects to our Cloud Services to authenticate users, manage administrative functions, and load client preferences. The following IP and ports should be permitted in order for Passages to connect successfully to our Cloud Services:

Destination Address Destination Port/Protocol Action:
Permit/Deny
Rule:
Add/Remove/Modify
192.238.26.40 (Cloud Services) 80/HTTP/TCP Permit Add
192.238.26.40 (Cloud Services) 443/HTTPS/TCP Permit Add

OpenVPN:

Passages uses a secure OpenVPN tunnel to communicate with our private cloud and connect to the Internet. In order to initiate the OpenVPN tunnel, Passages requires the ability to talk to our OpenVPN servers over certain ports and protocols.

Protocols are a system of rules that allow two or more entities to transmit information to and from each other and elicit responses. Ports are the endpoint for protocol communication to take place. Some protocols use specific ports for specific kinds of activities. Passages’ OpenVPN connection utilizes port 1194 UDP (User Datagram Protocol) and port 443 TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). It also requires IP 192.238.26.41 to be permitted in order to connect successfully to the OpenVPN server.

For optimum performance, it is recommended that customers connect to Passages' OpenVPN servers over port 1194 UDP. If Passages is unable to connect over port 1194, it will “fall back” to port 443 TCP. Please note that connecting over port 443 may result in degraded network performance. The following IP and ports should be permitted in order for Passages to connect successfully to our OpenVPN:

Destination Address Destination Port/Protocol Action:
Permit/Deny
Rule:
Add/Remove/Modify
192.238.26.41 (OpenVPN Server) 443/OpenVPN/TCP Permit Add
192.238.26.41 (OpenVPN Server) 1194/OpenVPN/UDP Permit Add

Download Server:

The Passages Download Server supports the user activation process, web content, access to our installers, and automatic updates. The following IP and ports should be permitted in order for Passages to connect successfully to our Download Server:
