Passages Windows Installation Process

Last Updated: May 25, 2017 09:43AM EDT
When you've finished downloading the Windows installer, it's time to install Passages to your machine. Open PassagesSetup.exe to begin the installation process. If you have not downloaded the Passages installer yet, please review the instructions for download here.

Depending on your account settings, you may need to allow the Passages installer to run in Windows SmartScreen or User Account Control. As an unrecognized application, Windows SmartScreen may require you to accept the potential risk of running this application. Confirm that the application is PassagesSetup.exe and the publisher is Ntrepid Corporation. Select "I understand the risk and want to run this app" and then click Run anyway.

Because Passages is an unrecognized application, User Account Control may ask, "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?" Confirm that the Program name is Passages and the Verified publisher is Ntrepid Corporation. Select Yes to continue with the installation.

Passages will need to run a pre-install if certain items for supporting Passages are not already installed on your device. These items include Oracle VirtualBox, the required .NET framework (v4.5.2), and a required C++ redistributable. Oracle VirtualBox is required to run the Passages virtual machine. The .NET framework and C++ redistributable are required to install and run Passages, and are available on all updated Windows operating systems.

If this is your first time installing Passages or you do not have all of the required items installed, the pre-install will run. If these prerequisites are already installed, you will not experience the pre-install. The Passages – InstallShield Wizard will open and display the required items that need to be installed on your computer. Select Install to begin the installation. The required items will immediately begin to be installed. When the pre-install is complete, the InstallShield Wizard will load and the Passages installer will launch.

The InstallShield Wizard will launch the Welcome page in a new installation window. Click Next to continue.

Next is the License Agreement, the conditions of which are set forth in the purchase agreement between Ntrepid and your organization. You must agree to the license agreement in order to continue installing Passages. Make sure you check the box next to “I accept the terms of the license agreement” to accept these terms. Click Next to continue with the installation.

After you’ve accepted the License Agreement, you’re clear for install. Select Install on the Start Installation page to begin. The InstallShield Wizard will install Passages on your computer.

When this is finished, the window will indicate its completed state, and you will select Finish. Passages will be available in the Programs folder in Windows Explorer and as a Shortcut on the Desktop.

Launch Passages:

To launch Passages on Windows and get started using your new secure browser, open Programs and locate Passages or double click your Passages Shortcut on the Desktop. Select Passages to launch. A window will open prompting you for your username and password. Enter your email address as your username and the password you created prior to installing Passages. Passages will launch, and you will be free to browse.

If Passages is not your default browser, Passages will request to be your default browser. Select OK to make Passages your default browser. Select Cancel if you do not want Passages to be your default browser at this time. You will continue to receive the Default Browser message when you launch Passages. If you’re certain you don’t want Passages to be your default browser, select Don’t Ask Again before selecting Cancel, and you will no longer receive the Default Browser message.

You can also set your default browser through the Taskbar. Selecting OK from the Make Passages the Default Browser prompt will open your Windows settings in the Default apps section.

Scroll down to Web Browser and select Passages to make it your default.
